However, there are times when this is not possible and a tooth requires extraction. Dental implants are a great solution for missing teeth as they are fixed, independent and can look cosmetically very good.
Dental implants are small titanium posts that are surgically placed into the jawbone. A crown then fits over the top of the implant, to give your smile back its aesthetics whilst also restoring your speaking and chewing ability.
The process of having an implant involves firstly seeing our Implant Surgeon for an assessment. You may then have a small CT scan of the area to help plan your treatment.
If you decide to go ahead, a surgical appointment is required to place the implant in your jawbone, this becomes your new root for the tooth. After 2-3 months, we expect the jaw bone to integrate around the implant. At this point, we then add a definitive crown to the implant.
Dental implants are unique. They work by mimicking the function of a real tooth root, which means the body accepts them as if they were a real body part. This results in the jawbone growing around them, which allows them to remain strong and healthy. Removable treatments like dentures cannot offer this same support to the jawbone, which can cause it to shrink away and can potentially also affect your facial appearance. Long-term denture wearers and those who have lived with missing teeth for many years often present with hollow cheeks and a protruding chin due to jawbone loss over time.
Dental implants are well known for being the best means of replacing a missing teeth. Here are some of the reasons why:
Near permanent treatment: dental implants can last a lifetime with the correct care.
Preserve your jawbone: Implant placement can help preserve the health and density of your jawbone following tooth loss. After a removal of a tooth, it is expected that the bone in the area shrinks as a result.
High success rate: dental implants have a 95% success rate.
Protect your oral health: replacing missing teeth with implants reduces pressure on other teeth.
Amazing cosmetic result: Modern techniques and technology can allow the final outcome to have excellent aesthetics.
Thank you for visiting our website. We would love to welcome you to the clinic, however we are unlikely to open before Spring 2023.
Unfortunately, the flats above us suffered a serious fire in February 2022 that led to severe water damage to the clinic as a result of the efforts of the Fire Brigade putting out the fire.
Our plan is to re-open the clinic and we would love to give a definitive date of opening however we cannot as the reinstatement of the clinic and equipment is in the hands of the insurance companies involved.
In the meantime, if you require any specific treatment or need to see our lead Clinician Adeel Nazir, please email info@kt2dental.co.uk for further details on alternative clinic locations.
Please check this website for further updates on opening.
We look forward to welcoming you in Spring 2023.
