Here at KT2 Dental, we perform thorough mouth cancer screening which has the potential to be life-saving.

With early detection, treatment can be less invasive and complex, which highlights just how important it is to come along to routine appointments with us. Our team are highly experienced and realise the importance of mouth cancer screening.

What is mouth cancer screening?

Mouth cancer screening is done at every examination and assessment to aim to detect problems that could indicate the presence of cancer.

How is mouth cancer screening performed?

Before performing a thorough examination of your mouth, we will ask you about your lifestyle and about any concerns or symptoms you might have with your oral health.

We will then look for the following during your appointment:

  • Changes to your bite.
  • Areas of red or white lesions in your mouth or on your lips.
  • Sores, swelling, lumps or thick patches anywhere in your mouth or throat.
  • Loose teeth or gum (periodontal) sockets.

As these symptoms aren’t always easy to spot at home in the mirror and don’t necessarily cause any discomfort, routine appointments are vital for early detection. If you do notice any of these symptoms at home, please don’t wait until your next routine check-up – get in touch with us right away.
